ADVERTISING ON THIS SITE
To give you some idea of the number of visitors and newcomers you can advertise to, check the graphs below. There is a regular peak in web traffic every summer as holidaymakers visit the site for travel and accommodation information. There is no “editorial opinion” or political angle to the site, and revenue from advertising simply pays for the running costs - see the site summary in the margin for more in the way the site came into being and how it’s run. Many small community web sites run on a shoestring budget, and are only occasionally updated, perhaps by a school IT club, parishioner or council member in a volunteer role. This one has someone looking after it on a daily basis, checking and adding content, and so is perhaps more of a living web portal and online magazine than a simple parish website.

ADVERTISING / PAGE SPONSORSHIP
This site is kept in operation and up-to-date, through advertising funding, which covers the cost of the web hosting, domain registration, software licenses, hardware, site maintenance and various other incidental costs. The general idea is not to be reliant on government grants or charity hand-outs for village web sites, (which have a habit of being terminated or cut back) but rather to provide a useful and up-to-date site that businesses are happy to pay to advertise on (more like a local paper), and thus provide a more reliable source of funding. So many thanks are due to our various sponsors for their support.
Free advertising
If your business, club or organisation is BS27-based*, you can have a free “lineage” entry in the A to Z or clubs pages, simply send over a few lines of descriptive text, contact email, address and local telephone number, Twitter/Facebook pages, plus a link to your web site if you have one (which will join our free link checking service below), and it will be added to the site at no charge. You can use the submission form for this. Check the business A-Z or accommodation listings to see what other people have done, if you need inspiration.
If you are an advertiser in the printed Village and Gorge leaflet produced by the Cheddar Village Diary, for the duration of the leaflet you automatically get the same ad on here free of charge (ask the Diary to send the artwork over), or £15+VAT if you need it linked to a web site or adjusted in some other way for the web.
Greater visibility through paid banner ads
For Cheddar-based or strongly Cheddar-Village-related businesses (such as neighbouring businesses serving the Cheddar area) there is also the possibility to have a banner advertisement appear in the main pages’ margin. The cost is £25 per year + VAT including setting up or changing an annual static ad for the sidebar.
Page sponsorship
There is also the option for £45+VAT to sponsor a whole page with a top-of-page static banner. Animated ads can be designed for an additional fee. You can track its effectiveness in your web site statistics service by monitoring hits received.
Google ads
Generic Google Adwords campaigns are used as default placeholders in the margin of many pages. These ads are taken from the Google Adwords library of businesses that are currently advertising to the readers of this type of web site. For more information on advertising on this site, contact the webmaster.
Marketing professionals if you are looking to place an ad on this site for a regional or national brand which would be of interest to our visitors, please get in touch with your requirements, rates, and banner/creative sizes; it should be possible to find a space for you.
LINK CHECKING
In the interest of ensuring this site remains the most useful resource for Cheddar residents and visitors, all external links from this site are checked on an automated basis, every few days, and marked with a strikethrough line. So if a linked web site becomes inaccessible, the problem will be investigated and eventually the link either removed or replaced. Also, if your own local business or club web site has a regular (non-Adwords) link from here, this monitoring process will pick up any problems with your hosting or domain name - and if it looks like a problem you need to know about, (i.e. your business web site is down!) you’ll be informed by Twitter, email or phone. If you do however come across a broken link that has not yet been repaired, or if it’s one of yours and you have a new link to replace it with, by all means use the main contact form to send the details over.

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. If you find these ads interesting, if you click on them it generates a tiny commission to help keep the web site running. These advertisers may use information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and would like to know your options in relation to not having this information used by these companies, click here. Some of the ads may make use of cookies picked up by your computer as a result of your visits to other web sites - but you can disable these kinds of ads by clicking the “i” in the ad corner. You can also completely disable all ads shown to you on any web site by installing an ad blocker in your browser - search on Google for “ad blocker”.
*BS27 is the Cheddar postcode but a listing can also be made for businesses that service the Cheddar area, from neighbouring postcodes BS25 (Winscombe), BS26 (Axbridge), BS28 (Wedmore), BA5 (Wells), and part of BS40 (the Mendip area south of A368, Blagdon to West Harptree). These entries would appear after the BS27 businesses. All listings are placed at the discretion of the webmaster.
