Food shopping and local produce
Cheddar is fortunate to have a number of food retailers in the village but for those items you can’t get locally, there are some internet firms offering local delivery services.
Local veg and fruit box delivery
Riverford Farm deliver fruit and veg boxes to this area, plus other produce, every Friday. Visit their web site to find out more and place an order.
Also a number of local producers have combined to provide the localfooddirect.co.uk web site delivering a wide range of locally produced groceries weekly around Somerset.
For more information about local food producers visit www.somersetfood.org.
Supermarket delivery
Most major supermarket chains will deliver groceries to the door of Cheddar residents, if you place your order over the internet and pay by credit or debit card. If you are unable to get out to these superstores yourself, these services can be very useful. Simply specify your preferred delivery time when you place your order. You will need to register with them to access the service, some may require a minimum order value and there will probably be a delivery charge. If you order an item that turns out to be unavailable, they usually substitute it with something similar.
Here are the links to their web sites:
Ocado (Waitrose) – offering a Tesco Price Match and founded on “green” principles to provide a more sustainable alternative to internet shopping. Cheddar’s nearest Waitrose is at Weston-Super-Mare.
Sainsbury’s to You – Cheddar’s nearest Sainsbury’s is at Worle but the home delivery service does come out to Cheddar.
Asda Groceries Online – Cheddar’s nearest Asdas are at Weston-Super-Mare and Highbridge. The Weston branch provides the home shopping service to Cheddar.
Tesco Online Shopping (but there is a Tesco Express in Cheddar anyway), and larger stores at Weston-Super-Mare and Wells.
Budgens in Cheddar also offer a local home delivery service, please contact the store on 01934 744546 for more information though, it’s not an internet service.
Morrisons and Somerfield do not have an internet home delivery service.
You may also find mysupermarket.co.uk useful in comparing prices between Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Ocado. They track the price of your trolley in all four supermarkets while you shop. You can then transfer the entire contents of your trolley to your preferred supermarket and automatically go forward to your chosen supermarket’s online checkout pages.
